Since its creation in 1934, The newspaper archive of the Center for Montañeses Studies has been gathering magazines with diverse themes and very varied geographical origins..
We account 652 titles, of which 371 correspond to dead or suspended magazines and 281 to live publications. A hundred of them are European or American editions.. The Center for Montañeses Studies maintains exchanges with 122 periodicals, both Spanish edition and from various countries in the world.
Due to limited space at the current headquarters, gradually reduced by the growth generated by exchanges, and the difficulties of offering all its funds due to the lack of personnel to maintain long opening hours to the public., An important documentary contribution was made to the Central Library and the Historical Archive of Cantabria, increasing the funds the Center for Montañeses Studies has in these institutions.
In addition to archival funds, whose indexes and contents can be consulted in the corresponding sections through this website, by agreement between the Center for Mountain Studies and the General Directorate of Culture of the Government of Cantabria, In recent years, the newspaper archive sections corresponding to dead or suspended magazines and the live ones with which no exchange is maintained have been delivered in deposit to this last institution.; The live magazines with which the C.E.M.. maintains exchange, thus fulfilling the traditional guideline of placing documentary and artistic collections, some of outstanding relevance for scholars and researchers, at the full disposal of citizens.
At the Center for Montañeses Studies, we plan to maintain the management of the magazines with which we have exchanges., so that the hundred or so titles included in this category will be updated annually in Cantabria..
Las 64 Magazines published in Cantabria or whose themes focus on the region existing in the collections will be kept at the headquarters of the Center for Montañeses Studies..
These refocusing of the newspaper archive constitute the first phase of the library organization project, that is planned to be carried out in the coming years
PERIODIC PUBLICATIONS LINKED TO THE CULTURAL INSTITUTION OF CANTABRIA IN THE C.E.M LIBRARY.
Various cultural organizations in Cantabria, that shared a trajectory with the Center for Montañeses Studies since the defunct Cultural Institution of Cantabria, generating periodic publications complementary to the magazine Altamira in their respective specialties, They become creditors of a special historical memory for their relevant contributions to culture..
We include periodical publications from our traveling companions, both the missing Annals of the Institute of Industrial Studies, Economics and Sciences Torres Quevedo, Publications of the Hoyos Sáinz Institute of Ethnography and Folklore and the Yearbook of the Juan de la Cosa Institute of Maritime Studies, like the titular magazines of institutes that follow their trajectory until current times: Los Annals of the Institute of Agricultural Studies, which we reproduce in full with the pertinent authorization of the I.E.A., and the magazine Saw chair from the Institute of Prehistory and Archeology of the same name, of which we provide the indices.

THE SANTANDER MAGAZINE
The Santander Magazine born in 1930 edited by a cultural group that would constitute the fundamental nucleus that shortly after, during the Second Spanish Republic, he would found the Center for Montañeses Studies and the Altamira magazine, which from some point of view can be considered heir to the trajectory of La Revista de Santander.
This is the motivation, along with our interest in this classic publication in Cantabria reaching the maximum number of readers., that prompts us to insert its contents here, recovered by various methods and origins (National Library, the Municipal Library of Madrid and funds from the newspaper archive from the Center for Mountain Studies), to which we have given a unified format and integrated the indexes published in 1973 and those made year 2016 to facilitate searches and access to content. It developed from a time of profound socio-cultural and economic changes in Spain.. The Santander Magazine was born in 1930, and its regular edition stops at 1933, although a last single issue was published last year 1935, a five-year period of deep economic crisis, social and political.

MOUNTAIN ECONOMY, edited by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Santander (1947-1955).
SURGERY BULLETIN, of the Surgical Sanatorium “Madrazo” from Santander (1910-1813)
Enrique Diego-Madrazo y Azcona, better known in the healthcare environment of Spain and locally in Cantabria as Dr. Madrazo, it was a pain in the ass surgeon, literate, intellectual and philanthropist of relevance and strong influence in the Spain of his time, until the arrival of the Spanish Civil War. Although it is difficult to find in his literary and scientific work except in a few specialized libraries, It is more problematic to access the interesting collection of the Madrazo Sanatorium Surgery Bulletin published in Santander between the years 1910 y 1913. Some factors that interfered in his career can be mentioned., such as the difficulties in disseminating its important circulation of 5.000 specimens, together with the abrupt stoppage of scientific activity and knowledge exchange in the pre-war environment of World War I, or the illness and premature death of Dr. Juan Herrera Oria, ultimately converted into the soul of the publication.
Because it contains abundant information of social interest and historical significance, we make the magazine available to those interested.. There is additional information about the documentary collections of the Madrazo Sanatorium, recently donated to the University of Cantabria. The original numbers of the Surgery Bulletin are preserved in its library at the University of Cantabria and in the Marquesa de Pelayo Library.. These entities, and Dr. Manuel Oria Martínez-Conde, who donated Doctor Madrazo's library to both, with whom we have been collaborating for decades, have allowed us to digitize and disseminate the series, difficult to complete without your collaboration.

ANNALS OF THE VALDECILLA HEALTH HOUSE – POSTGRADUATE M-EDICAL INSTITUTE
Los Annals of the Valdecilla Health House, together with the scientific journal that preceded it thirty years in advance, he Madrazo Sanatorium Surgery Bulletin, , They are the only two scientific-medical periodicals worth mentioning published in Cantabria and, in several aspects, also notable in Spain. If only to allow a comparison between eras of medicine and clinic or auxiliary sciences and technology, its dissemination would be more than justified, but they are, besides, sources of historical information to understand essential components of local history. At some point it may be appropriate to complete the series, including all issues published in post-war times, stage in which they establish presence and begin to rapidly evolve many of the therapeutic resources that are still common today. The numbers of the Annals that are exhibited are a compilation of diverse origins, The bulk of them correspond to private libraries of former professionals of the Valdecilla Health House.
Volume I (1930), Volume II (1931), Tomo III (1932), Volume IV (1933), Volume V (1934), Volume VI (1935), Volume VII (1936-1944), Tomo 8 (1945) y Special Issue of the Association of Ex-Intern Doctors (1974) that closes the publication. (Not included the volumes of the 2nd and 3rd eras, published between 1946 y 1973).
