-Es Cronista Oficial de la Provincia (hoy región) de Cantabria from the 11 de Diciembre de 1934, por acuerdo de la Diputación Provincial de Santander, en la actualidad transformada en Gobierno de Cantabria.
-Es miembro del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) from the 6 de Mayo de 1946, integrándose entre esa fecha y Diciembre de 1977 en el extinguido Patronato José Mª Quadrado.
-Fue galardonado por el Patronato del Premio Virgen del Carmen in 16 de Julio de 1948.
-Es miembro decano y fundador de la Institución Cultural de Cantabria, constituida en 31 de Octubre de 1967 y desaparecida en 2012.
-Es miembro fundador de la Confederación Española de Centros de Estudios Locales (CECEL), creada en 28 April 1981.
-Es Institución Consultiva para la Historia y el Patrimonio de Cantabria por acuerdo del Consejo de Gobierno de la Diputación Regional de 29 de Agosto de 1990, siendo preceptivo solicitar su informe ante las incoaciones de “Bienes Inventariados”, “Bienes de Interés Local” (BIL), “Bienes de Interés Cultural” (BIC), “Conjuntos Monumentales” and “Áreas de Protección” de dichos elementos patrimoniales.

La entidad se enmarca legalmente en la Ley Orgánica 1/2002 of 22 de marzo reguladora del Derecho de Asociación, Real Decreto 1388/1996 of 7 de junio, sobre traspaso en materia de Asociaciones a la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria y Decreto 73/1997, of 7 of July, por el que se crea y regula el Registro de Asociaciones de Cantabria.
Su funcionamiento se rige por las disposiciones estatutarias aprobadas en Junta General el 25 de abril del año 2017 y por la reglamentación adicional de régimen interno.
